Unfit vehicles at Chunarughat

Tuesday, 5 August 2014

Various types of unfit vehicles are plying on different routes in Chunarughat upazila raising the risk of accidents and causing frequent gridlocks. These vehicles do not have fitness certificates and dodge fees for route permits and road taxes depriving the government of revenue. Buses, trucks, three-wheelers and human haulers run with faulty engines that frequently go out of order blocking the traffic for hours. The drivers of most of these vehicles are apprentices and do not have license. These vehicles go off roads during drives by mobile courts but return as soon as the drives are over.
The unfit vehicles are also polluting the environment by releasing poisonous smoke and making noise. Recently some businessmen bought these vehicles from Dhaka and Chittagong at a lower cost.
It seems the law enforcing authorities have turned a blind eye on these irregularities. The traffic police allegedly collect money from them at different points at Chunarughat, Sayestaganj and Habiganj to let these vehicles operate without interruptions. We want intervention of the appropriate authorities to stop plying of these unfit vehicles.
