FE Report
UNFPA has donated six ambulances to Health and Family Welfare Ministry for fistula patients.
Health Adviser ASM Matiur Rahman received the keys of the ambulances at a programme at the conference room of the ministry Monday.
The ambulances will be used for the fistula programme by six different medical college hospitals in the country.
The health adviser, in his speech, said fistula is one of the major causes of maternal morbidity. Maternal morbidity is an area which needs to be addressed by all of us who are working in the reproductive health sector.
He lauded the UNFPA initiative to address the issue and provided technical and financial support to nine medical college hospitals including Dhaka Medical College Hospital where a National Fistula Centre is going to be established. About 400,000 women are suffering from obstetric fistula and other morbidities.
UNFPA Assistant Representative Tahera Ahmed, directors of six medical college hospitals and UNFPA and government officials participated in the programme.
