A survey report on 'Social index of people living in slum and non-slum areas' was handed over to the planning minister at his office Monday.
Carel de Rooy, the new UNICEF representative in Bangladesh, handed over the report that showed people in the slum areas are living in the condition inferior to that of village in terms of getting different facilities.
Carel de Rooy urged Planning Minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) AK Khandaker to give importance to the result of the report in the sixth five-year plan.
He also had discussion with the minister about the population size, food security and alternative food production of the country.
The planning minister said the sixth five-year plan has been made giving priority to education, health, poverty reduction and food security sectors.
During the meeting, he also said the number of poor people will be brought down to the minimum level by 2015 through a balanced development.
