Unidentified corpses float in Meghna

Several dead bodies were floating in the Meghna River at island Upazila Hatia in Noakhali district, local people say. Police and coastguards, however, claimed their ignorance about the corpses. Locals said they saw the bodies floating in the river since Friday afternoon. They said dogs mutilated the corpses letting stink spread in the area. But Hatia Police Station OC Syed Md Fazle Rabbi and Hatia Coast Guard Commander Hamidur Rahman said they had had no information about the corpses. The Hatia Upazila General Secretary of Workers Party, Anwar Hossain, said they saw dogs mutilating one body on the bank of the Meghna in Badsha Mia area on Sunday morning. He said another corpse was seen in the river in the same village at noon. Local people had seen another body at Chairman Ghat on Saturday noon. Madhya Char Amanullah Government Primary School teacher Bidhan Chandra Das said they saw three bodies floating in the river on Saturday noon. On information, students of the school and local people rushed to the river to see the corpses, according to bdnews24.com.
