AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, July 31 (AP): Consumer products company Unilever PLC, maker of Dove soaps, Lipton teas and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, said Thursday net profit fell by 21 per cent in the second quarter, hurt by the strong euro, higher taxes, and restructuring costs.
The company said net profit was euro909 million (US$1.41 billion), down from euro1.14 billion in the same period a year ago. Sales fell 1.4 per cent to euro10.4 billion ($16.2 billion).
Unilever shares dropped 5.80 per cent to euro18.26 ($28.46) in early Amsterdam trading.
