Thursday, 22 December 2011
United Airways (BD) Limited, the country's only capital market listed company, will start flying on Dhaka-Muscat route from third week of next month, reports UNB.
"We've already obtained the permission from Muscat Civil Aviation Authority to operate in the route with our own Airbus-310 having 250 seats and will fly to Muscat from third week of January 2012," said Capt Tasbirul Ahmed Choudhury, Chairman and Managing Director of United Airways.
United Airways has also obtained permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh to operate four flights to Muscat.
It started its journey on July 10, 2007. The airline is operating flights to all major domestic destinations from Dhaka.
United Airways is now operating more international routes from Dhaka to Jeddah, Dubai, London, Kuala Lumpur, Katmandu, Kolkata and Bangkok.
Capt Tasbir said, "The allocation of more flight frequencies for the private airlines was due to a change in the government policy, as it seeks to inject competition in the aviation industry."
He said the government is now very liberal and is encouraging the private sector to have its share of the growing market and we must be ready to face competition and should improve our service quality.
Bangladesh's air traffic grew near 7.0 per cent last year, making it one of the fastest - growing aviation markets in the region.
