Chattogram, July 18 (UNB): Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the director of Unitex Group Ltd, Farnah Ahmed, in a case filed over digging land in a reserved forest at Chattagram's Sitakunda.
RAB-7 Assistant Director of Media, Nurul Huda, confirmed the arrest during a press conference on Monday afternoon.
The case was filed by the Forest Department of Sitakunda this year.
According to Nurul Huda, Farnah Ahmed, the alleged mastermind behind an illegal soil digging syndicate and encroachment on forest land in Sitakunda, was arrested from the city's Chawkbazar area on a tip-off. He was also wanted by the court under a warrant.
The case documents detailed the activities of a group of forest bandits who were using excavators to dig soil and construct a dam in the reserve forest area adjacent to Unitex Group Ltd.
When the beat officer approached the scene, Farnah Ahmed managed to escape with his accomplices.
Consequently, the Sitakund Range of the Coastal Forest Department filed a case against six individuals, with Farnah Ahmed being the primary accused, in the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Forest.
