Unity of BGMEA men to resolve its existing problems stressed

CHITTAGONG, July 15: First Vice President of Bangladesh Garments Manu-facturers and Exporters Asso-ciation (BGMEA) MA Salam has stressed the need for unity among its members to resolve the existing problems facing the country's garments sector.
He was speaking at a view-exchange meeting organised by the owners of the readymade garment (RMG) industries of the Chittagong region held at BGMEA's Agrabad regional office Friday.
In presence of a large number of RMG exporters, the meeting discussed the latest situation of the RMG sector and dwelt on various ways for boosting the country's export basket.
The meeting also discussed various proposals for accelerating the export growth and identified a number of barriers to the growth of the promising sector.
MA Salam gave a brief description of different programmes at the meeting which had already been implemented. He also said the post 1/11 period has enabled the country's RMG industries to prosper.
Referring to the recent talks with the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner (CMP), MA Salam said the CMP commissioner has given the assurance of maintaining law and order situation properly in the garments industries and he has also undertaken effective steps in this connection.
As per advice of the CMP commissioner, the garment industries based in the port city have been divided into four zones and the suggestion has helped the garments owners resolve their problems, he added.
