Univ students may get loan for laptops

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology has proposed bank loans for university students on easy terms for purchase of laptops.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on behalf of the division sent a letter to the finance minister recently proposing the bank loans at the interest rate of 4.0 per cent to ensure one laptop for every university student.
The state minister requested the finance minister to take necessary steps for providing the bank loans on easy terms for the students of universities so that they can purchase laptops. At the same time he also sought an amount of subsidy on the bank loans.
Prime Minister's son and her ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy distributed laptops among about 250 university students on May 03 last under the 'One Student One Laptop' scheme of the government in an effort to hone their ICT skills.
The students from Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Sylhet-based Shahjalal University of Science and Technology were given the laptops on the day.
