Universities urged to come out of all irregularities

Speakers at Dr Rashid Memorial Lecture-2008 focusing education scenario in Bangladesh said the universities should be centres of innovation and producing leaders to carry out overall development for the country.
They also said the higher educational institutions should be innovative as they have to deal with all aspects of the society related to human life.
Dr Rashid Foundation of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) organised the lecture where University Grants Commission Chairman Nazrul Islam attended as the chief guest.
Former Vice-Chancellor of BUET Nooruddin Ahmed delivered the lecture on the aforesaid topic with BUET VC and Chairman of Rashid Foundation AMM Safiullah in the chair. Engineer MR Rashid made the welcome and introduction address on the occasion.
Nooruddin Ahmed presented a complete scenario on all stages of education from primary to university level in his lecture. He also upheld various problems and irregularities of the educational institutions.
Terming corruption, poor governance and lack of commitment among the country's educational institutions as very painful, UGC Chairman urged the authorities concerned to come out of these difficulties by utilising their integrity, sincerity, merit and quality.
"How can a VC be corrupt and what can we expect from them? We should rather die of starvation than indulge in corruption being the head of a university, he said regretting over recent corruption of several VCs.
BUET VC said the universities should concentrate on innovation and generating more prudent leaders to let the whole nation achieve development.
