Unlicensed hospital sealed off, fake docs jailed

The Department of Health sealed off an illegally set up private hospital in Dhaka city and sentenced six of its employees, including three fake doctors, to various jail terms with fines on Saturday. Sources said a team of the Health Department, led by its deputy director (hospital) Dr Swapan Kumar Taluqdar, conducted a special drive with the assistance Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-2, at the 10-bed Hazrat Shajalal (R) General Hospital. The private hospital was not licensed to run the services while three of its staff identifying themselves as doctors failed to show their MBBS certificates. Two technicians and one nurse at the hospital also did not have the registration required for the job. The three fake doctors were sentenced to three years imprisonment while the technicians and the nurse to six months term each. In addition, all of them were fined Tk 0.1 million each, according to a news agency.
