KHULNA, Jan 13: Unloading of an import consignment of 714 reconditioned cars carried by a foreign vessel started at the Mongla Port jetty Wednesday.
M/s Haques Bay Automobiles of Dhaka imported these motorised vehicles.
Earlier, the company had imported 255 private cars by a Filipino vessel-MV Easterla Etarna in June last year.
Sources said the 100 reconditioned cars imported in the first phase were housed under the port shed due mainly to the negligence of the customs authorities.
The import of motorised vehicles through Mongla Port mainly depends on the better cargo handling process in future, said the importers.
They said the car import through Mongla port would be continued in future, if the cargo handling facilities at the port got better.
However, the port authorities have been asked to start the automation system at the port to bring dynamism in its cargo handling process.
