Unnecessary school fees
Tuesday, 30 August 2022
Almost every educational institution in Dhaka city has increased their tuition fees. They have been charging parents of their students an exorbitant amount of money. At a reputed school, for example, the admission fees include costs of gas, water, generator and even legal advice fees. The school also charges the guardian software fee, SMS fee, teachers' welfare fund fee, lab fee, milad and puja fee. And the list goes on. Some of the fees seem absurd. These schools charge software and computer laboratory fees from grade I and even KG level students. Such fees by private educational institutions are adding to the distress of the parents. In the name of operating expenses, they are charging students unnecessary fees. If anyone fails to clear all the fees, they do not get the admit card for examination.
We urge the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
There should be a monitoring body to scrutinise the fees the schools charge regularly from their students.
