Unrest in Iraq and Bangladeshi immigrants
Sunday, 6 July 2014
Many Bangladeshi citizens are passing terrible time in war-ravaged Iraq as a sectarian fighting is going on in that country. Media reports say common people are not safe even from the law enforcing agency, as fierce fighting has broken out between the opposition ISIS and the Iraqi government. The ISIS is reported to have launched a major offensive against the Iraqi government. Last month Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called a state of emergency in Iraq. The country is experiencing a turbulent time and many Iraqis are fleeing to save their lives. The Bangladeshi expatriates in that country have hardly any place to take shelter. The government of Bangladesh should bring back the Bangladeshi citizens trapped there and help the unfortunate people to come home safely. Their near and dear ones of Bangladeshis are passing their days in grave anxiety. The government must show alacrity and take timely action so that the lives of Bangladeshi immigrants living in Iraq are saved. War only brings miseries to the common people, no lasting peace. We hope the situation in Iraq will improve and peace will prevail there. Every warring group in Iraq should work for peace and avoid confrontation. Former US President Bush's war on terror brought misfortune for the Iraqi people and they have been bleeding since America attacked Iraq in March 2003.
