UP chairman among 4 injured by bullets

A union parishad (UP) chairman was among four people injured by bullets in a gun and bomb attack by miscreants at Benapole town in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Monday night. The injured were identified as Lakhkhanpur Union Parishad chairman and union unit Awami League general secretary Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan, Jubo League leader Ashanur Rahman and two pedestrians – Shahadat Hossain and Shahidul Islam. Witnesses said a gang of miscreants swooped on Kamal and Ashanur, fired three rounds of bullets and threw 5-7 hand bombs targeting them while they were returning home from Benapole Bazar at about 11:00pm, leaving four people, including two pedestrians, injured with bullets. When Kamal and Ashanur fell down on the ground after being injured with bullets, the miscreants also chopped them with sharp weapons indiscriminately. Most shops owners closed their shops getting scared at the sounds of bombs and bullets and people of the area were seen running helter-skelter for safety. Later, local people rescued the injured and rushed them to Jessore Medical College Hospital, according to UNB.
