NOAKHALI, Dec 28 (UNB): A UP chairman and supporter of BNP candidate in Noakhali-3 was arrested Sunday on charge of anti-election campaign.
Police Super Lutful Kabir said Jamaluddin, chairman of Choyani Union Parishad, was arrested on allegations that he indulged in campaign against the December 29 polls.
Abdur Rahman, coordinator of BNP nominee Barkatullah Bulu, in a written complain to the Returning Officer said Jamaluddin, a staunch supporter of his candidate, was taken into custody in a bid to thwart the certain victory of Bulu.
Informed sources said Jamaluddin earlier supported independent candidate Minhaj Ahmed Javed, who happens to be brother of Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed. But recently Jamaluddin shifted his loyalty and support to BNP candidate to the worries of Javed.
