UP chairman held with firearm, ammo, drugs

Police arrested a union parishad (UP) chairman in possession of one rifle, seven sharp weapons, 15 rounds of bullet, 11 pieces of Yaba tablet and eight bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from his house at Niyogbari village in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district on Friday. The arrestee was identified as Abdullah Al Mamun Ripon, 40, chairman of Shvogachha union and son of former union parishad chairman Abul Talukder. Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kazipur Police Station said, tipped off a team of police conducted a raid on the house of Ripon and arrested him in the afternoon. Later, the law enforcers also recovered one rifle, seven sharp weapons, 15 rounds of bullet, 11 pieces of Yaba tablet and eight bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup searching his house. A case was filed in this connection, according to a news agency.
