UP chairmen come under attack at law and order meet in Jessore

JESSORE, July 30: Four chairmen of different union parishads (UP) under Jessore Sadar Upazila were injured and eight others harassed when they boycotted the upazila level monthly meeting of law and order Wednesday. A total of 15 chairmen were present at the meeting.
Sources said a group of terrorists attacked the UP chairmen at around 5:10pm outside the upazila complex conference room soon after they boycotted the meeting in protest deteriorating against law and order situation in the upazila.
The criminals allegedly loyal to the upazila chairman and also general secretary of Jessore district unit of Awami League Shahin Chaklader confined the chairmen for at least an hour on the upazila complex premises.
The chairmen were rescued by the police and were taken to Jessore Press Club where they held a press conference in the evening.
In the press conference the UP chairmen alleged that terrorists numbering 20-25 led by Shaharul, Alamgir and Mafu attacked the chairmen outside the upazila complex conference room as they staged a walk out in protest against worsening law and order situation.
