Upazila chairman accused of extortion

HABIGRANJ, Apr 21 (UNB): Baniachang Upazila chairman Iqbal Hossain and 12 others were today accused of plundering a market whose owner had refused to pay extortion money.
The judicial magistrate ordered an investigation into the case and asked for a report.
Advocate Jahangir Alam in his case submitted that he owned a mini market in Ganigganj bazar. Upazila chairman Iqbal, his brother Ibadul Hossain and ruling party cadres demanded Tk one lakh as illegal toll.
When they were turned down, they threatened to kill him and then plundered his market and forcibly evicted the shop owners.
