Upazila chairman shot dead, his vehicle burnt

Miscreants shot to death a  local Awami League leader and the chairman of Fulgazi upazila of Feni district on Tuesday. Police quoting his driver and witnesses said a gang of miscreants swooped on the car carrying Ekramul Haque, the ruling Awami League-backed UZ chairman, in front of Bilashi Cinema Hall in Academy area of Feni town around 11:15am and forced his driver out of the vehicle. The attackers shot Ekramul from very close range and then torched the vehicle with Ekram inside, to confirm his death. Witnesses said the miscreants were locals. Police and local people recovered the UZ chairman's charred body. The criminals also chopped the car driver with sharp weapons at that time, leaving him critically injured, according to private TV channels.
