Updating of DCC voter list starts today

The Election Commission (EC) starts gathering information about voters of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) today (Tuesday) to update the existing list, reports bdnews24.com.
Deputy Election Commissioner of Dhaka Division Biswas Lutfar Rahman said, "New voters can also be included, while the dead will be excluded."
Some 3,500 field workers and supervisors will gather information until October 5, while the process of taking photographs will run from October 12 to November 10.
The draft list is supposed to be published by November.
The EC believes a 4.0 to 5.0 per cent increase in the number of voters when the list is updated.
Enlistment in DCC area started on December 1, 2007, where over 3.5 million people were registered before the ninth national elections. Earlier, the cancelled voter list had around 4.0 million voters.
Rahman said intending voters could contact the project office at Agargaon and election officers in their districts or thanas for changes in the contact address.
The countrywide electoral roll updating began in June.
Three phases of the four-part updating have been completed. Registration was finished in 154 upazilas in the first phase, 161 upazilas and 17 circle unions in Dhaka in the second and 166 upazilas in the third phase.
The fourth phase includes collection of information in six city corporations.
People born on January 1, 1992 or earlier (18 years of age or more) will be registered during the update.
The formulation of a photo-based voter list started in 2007 for the first time. As many as 81 million people got registered before the December 29 general elections.
