UPDF man shot dead, 2 others injured

A UPDF man was shot dead by unknown assailants in hill district of Rangamati on Friday night. The dead is Santos Chakma, 25, a member of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), an outfit that opposes Chittagong Hill Tracts peace treaty. A group of armed men sprayed bullets on three UPDF members in Naniyachar Upazila around 7:30pm on Friday leaving them critically injured. They were rushed to a local hospital which referred critically-injured Santos Chakma to Chittagong for better treatment. He died at a private clinic in the port city around 11:30pm. Two other critically injured UPDF men – Kanti Chakma and Jibon Chakma – were receiving treatment at a hospital, according to private TV channels.
