KHAGRACHHARI, Jan 7 (UNB): United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) enforced a daylong road and waterway blockade for second straight day in the district on Sunday protesting the obstruction on their Saturday's demonstration by police.
Almost all types of vehicles remained out of roads on long and domestic routes since the morning, causing untold sufferings to passengers especially tourists.
Picketers blocked roads at different places but no untoward incident was reported, said officer-in-charge (OC) of Khagrachhari thana Tareque Mohammad Abdul Hannan.
Additional police have remained deployed at different strategic points to avert any untoward incident.
On Saturday, the blockade called by UPDF and its like-minded indigenous organisations protesting the killing of its organiser Mithun Chakma passed off peacefully barring some stray incidents of violence in the district.
Police chased picketers in Chengi Bridge area of the district town and dispersed them by firing blank shots.
Later, UPDF called the blockade for Sunday, the second consecutive day, protesting the police obstruction.
