Uphold country's interest above all remaining accountable to the noble profession: President

President Iajuddin Ahmed Tuesday urged journalists to uphold country's interest above all else remaining accountable to their noble profession, reports UNB.

Reminding journalists of their responsibilities and obligations to the country and society, he said, "Greater responsibilities and obligations are now lying with the journalists as the media in the country have now been enjoying complete freedom."

The President made the remarks when an 8-member delegation of Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) led by its Chief Adviser and DU Vice-chancellor SMA Faiz met him at Bangabhaban.

DUJA President Mahbubur Rahman and General Secretary Shajahan Shubho, Jamal Uddin Jami and Iqbal Hossain were among others present.

During the meeting, the delegation apprised the President of various activities of DUJA alongside performing their professional duties.

They also drew attention of the President to their different professional problems.

The President gave a patient hearing to the delegation and praised the activities of DUJA in developing journalism in the country.

Mentioning that DU was a leading educational institution of the country, the President said any event on the university campus had great impacts and so the university journalists should uphold objectivity in preparing their news on any campus event.

Military Secretary to the President Mohd Aminul Karim, Secretary of President's Office Md Sirajul Islam and President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were also present.
