NEW YORK, Jan 16: The US army and country's several intelligence agencies are not adequately equipped to fight homegrown terrorism. Such a forecast in the world's mightiest nations obviously becomes a cause of major concern. It takes far more serious turn when such forecast is made by no less a person than Robert Gates, the US defence secretary.
Gates fears about homegrown terrorism came after a review meeting of the defence department yester day. "It is clear that as a department we have not done enough to face domestic internal security threats. Our counter intelligence procedures are designed to combat external threats," the defence secretary was quoted as saying at the Pentagon press conference
The concern over lax of intelligence efforts has surfaced after a Muslim army major killed several of his colleagues, failure of Abu Mutalleb to blow up an aeroplane and killing of seven CIA agents in Afghanistan by a Jordanian double agent
Meanwhile, extreme rightwingers in Haiti recently devastated by an earthquake are blocking flow of aids from America. Pat Robertson, host of a TV talk show said Haitian have been punished by the God for having long made a pact with devil (America). White House Press Secretary called Roberson a stupid and news pouring in from all corners point to donations for disaster relief in Haiti will break all previous records.
Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Senior Bush have been put in charge of relief operations as they did case of tsunami in 2004. Another conservative radio talk show host berated the government for allegedly politicising America's response to the disaster.
