US assures investment in gas, power sectors

US Deputy Secretary of State James B Steinberg assured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of continuing US support and assistance in Bangladesh's development sectors, including making investments in the power and gas sectors, report agencies.
He has also heaped high praise on Bangladesh's progress in human development, strengthening democracy and preserving human rights under the present government.
The praise flowed when the visiting US State Department official paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Thursday morning.
They discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues including expansion of trade and business and US investment in the country, said Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad after the meeting.
Steinberg highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her prudent leadership in different international forums in tackling the adverse impact of climate change and her government's steps to check terrorism and ensure good governance.
