US bins role in Hasina's ouster

FE REPORT | Wednesday, 14 August 2024

The US administration had no role in the ouster of the Hasina regime, said a White House spokesperson early Tuesday.
Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre binned the allegations that Hasina was ousted by a US plot because she did not agree to hand over St Martin's Island to the USA.
"We have had no involvement at all. Any report or rumour that the United States government was involved in these events is simply false. That is not true," she said.
"This is a choice for and by the Bangladeshi people.
We believe that the Bangladeshi people should determine the future of the Bangladeshi government, and that's where we stand."
In reply to another query about the 'atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh', Ms Jean-Pierre said they were certainly monitoring the human rights situation.
