US businesses favouring Republicans in elections

NEW YORK, Oct 19: US corporate sector is trying to influence the outcome of the coming midterm election with massive doses of cash infusion. The hidden donors are favouring the Republicans. They are spending billion of dollars. Contribution to campaign fund is legal but with a ceiling.
The White House lambasted the "influx of direct political contributions from businesses" and described it as a threat to US democracy. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has urged US Chambers of Commerce to open up books and reveal to the American people where the money is from. This will distort democracy, many feel.
The US Federal Election Commission data showed Republicans raising more money than the Democrats in the third quarter in number of key Senate races. The political analysts predict that with midterm elections little less than two weeks away the Republicans are expected to gain majority in the House of Representatives but not in the Senate.
President Obama and First Lady Michelle are on a rare joint campaign to boost the political fortunes of the Democratic party nominees. The top priority of the Obama administration in 2011 will be to generate jobs and growth and to focus on fiscal situation. Economy has become the major issue in the midterm polls. Lobbyists are not hoping that the financial regulations will be repealed but Federal Reserve, Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulators will refrain from aggressive actions. The Chief Congressional lobbyist at the US Chambers of Commerce say if Republicans win a House majority they must define the problems of the laws as they affect the American people.
