US govt awards certificates to 24 law enforcers

Twenty-four law enforcement personnel, who have completed training in advanced investigative techniques sponsored by the United States (US) Department of Justice, were awarded certificates in the city, reports UNB.
The training, held on May 22-26, concluded with an awarding ceremony at the Police Command and Staff College in the city, according to a US embassy press release.
The course, called "Interviewing in Investigations, Part 2," focused on the skills and techniques required to interview suspects, witnesses, and crime victims.
Among the topics discussed were how to prepare for and structure interviews, as well as topics such as active listening skills.
In particular, participants were instructed on the use of non-coercive methods that are consistent with human rights objectives.
Training was open to inspectors and sub-inspectors, in Special Branch (SB), Detective Branch (DB), and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who had completed the first part of the course in January, 2011.
The full two-part training programme was jointly organised by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Programme (ICITAP).
The awarding ceremony was attended by Naim Ahmed, rector (Additional Inspector General of Police) of the Police Staff College Bangladesh.
Also present in the ceremony were Karin Valaas, FBI Acting Assistant Legal Attache, Dhaka, and Jon Danilowicz, Jr, representing ICITAP.
