Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the USA has around US $2 billion investment in Bangladesh. Reminding that before Awami League tenure in 1996 the investment of the USA in Bangladesh was only US$ 25 million, Sheikh Hasina told the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) that during Awami League (AL) tenure their (USA) investment has gone up to around 1.2 billion. She said it happened due to AL government. “We’ve given that scope, now it’s around US $2 billion,” the prime minister said while responding to a supplementary question from a lawmaker elected from an Old Dhaka constituency. Hasina mentioned the state US investment in Bangladesh while voicing her hope to retain the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) facility in the USA, according to a news agency.
