US makes visa processing easier for Bangladeshis

CHITTAGONG, Nov 20 (BSS): The United States (US) Embassy in Bangladesh has made easier its visa processing system for non-immigrant visa applicants of Bangladeshi people.
The people of Bangladesh can now collect immigration visas for the US and submit post-interview documents in Sylhet and Chittagong, besides the capital.
The US Embassy has improved its appointment booking system so that the applicants can schedule their visa interview appointments via online and chose any available appointment. Applicants can also book an appointment by calling new call center which offers information in English and Bangla.
This was disclosed by US Embassy vice consul in Dhaka Cameron Millard at a press briefing at the Jamal Khan American corner this afternoon. US Embassy, Deputy chief of Mission David Meale also attended the function.
Earlier, immigration visa applicants had to visit the office of the US embassy in the capital for document submission and visa collection, but now, they will be able to complete the process at Visa Collection Centres in the three cities.
It is also easier, now for applicants to pay for their visa processing fees. Previously the applicants had to travel to Dhaka to purchase their visa applications fee receipts. However the applicants can purchase receipts from any six of HSBC branch locations in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Narayanganj and Mymensingh.
Under the new system, the applicants can pickup their passports from any of three locations in Dhaka, Chittagong or Sylhet.
Besides, a new website, www.ustraveldocs.com/bd, has been launched to make the process easier.
Another report adds, The US Senate has confirmed the nomination of Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat as new US Ambassador to Bangladesh.
Bernicat will succeed incumbent Ambassador Dan W Mozena.
