US Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia Atul Keshap on Monday said Bangladesh needs to make the best use of the opportunity that has come in its political life and in the lives of its people in the spirit of ‘accommodation and compromise’. “So, there’s a moment that has come in the political life of Bangladesh and the political life of Bangladeshi people…America is urging, as a friend of all Bangladeshis,…seize the moment, find the opportunity,” he said adding that it will be an opportunity to show the world Bangladesh is investing in its democracy and respecting democracy. Keshap came up with the remark at a press conference held at American Center in the evening. US Deputy Chief of Mission Jon F Danilowicz and Press and Information Officer Kelly McCarthy were also present. Responding to a question on US assessment regarding human rights issue, Keshap said the US wants to see that Bangladesh shows respect to this important issue. On GSP issue, Keshap said there has been a constructive engagement with Bangladesh regarding the matter but few things need to be done, according to a news agency.
