US position on Bangladesh unchanged
Tuesday, 24 June 2014
The United States has not changed its position on Bangladesh and wants all political parties to dialogue for holding fresh elections -- but it now wants to leave it to the parties to decide. After the January 5 elections, that the BNP boycotted, the US in a statement called for fresh elections as soon as possible with agreement on a poll-time dispensation. The state department's deputy spokesperson Marie Harf replying a question at the regular press briefing in Washington on Monday said 'our position hasn't changed'. She referred to assistant secretary Nisha Desai Biswal's recent comment describing Bangladesh as an important partner of the US and that 'we are encouraging dialogue between the parties.’
'….this is the path forward here, and nothing about that has changed,' she added. according to bdnews24.com.
