US stocks rise ahead of Yellen testimony

US stocks Wednesday opened higher following mixed earnings and ahead of congressional testimony by US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen. Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 78.45 points (0.48 percent) to 16,479.47. The broad-based S&P 500 added 8.08 (0.43 percent) at 1,875.80, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 10.00 (0.25 percent) to 4,090.76. Video game developer Electronic Arts vaulted 17.8 percent higher after earnings bested its forecasts by a large margin, but Whole Foods Market slumped 19.6 percent after slashing its 2014 outlook, according to AFP.
