The United States (US) will construct 24 multi-purpose cyclone shelters and four bridges in cyclone Sidr-affected areas of Khulna and Barisal divisions, reports UNB.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and US governments has been signed in this regard, said a US Embassy press release Sunday.
"In an emergency, each shelter will be able to safely protect 1,500 people. These cyclone shelters will serve as schools when not needed for emergencies," said the release.
The US Pacific Command is providing US$ 4.3 million for the construction of these structures.
