US to help protect democracy: Envoy

US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat Sunday said her country is committed to helping Bangladesh protect and continue its democracy, reports UNB.
"We value your democracy, we're committed to helping you protect your democracy as we want the continuation of democracy in Bangladesh," PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri quoted her as telling Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The newly-appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Sangsad Bhaban office Sunday evening.
The PM's Press Secretary briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said the Prime Minister told Bernicat that the government will do whatever is needed to protect Bangladesh's hard-earned democracy.
