US ambassador Marcia Bernicat on Wednesday said her country will take a hard stance on Rohingya issue in the next session of the UN general assembly.
The US envoy said this after her meeting with Bangladesh foreign secretary in the city.
"Our discussion was focused on the next UN general assembly. The USA is going to take over the presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC). We will be hard on the Rohingya issue as we have been all along," she said.
Responding to a question, she said the US wants a free, fair and credible election in Bangladesh.
She said the government has committed to holding a free and fair election and the US is eagerly waiting to see the implementation of the pledge.
