US trade official due today to push ART execution

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 5 May 2026

A senior United States trade official is due here today for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties, amid growing economic engagement between the two countries.
Brendan Lynch, assistant US trade representative for South and Central Asia, will lead a delegation to Dhaka on May 5-7 to discuss ways of expanding cooperation, according to an announcement by the US mission.
In a statement Monday, spokesperson Poornima Rai said Washington was looking to advance implementation of the proposed US-Bangladesh Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which is expected "to enhance economic growth by improving market access, reducing barriers to investment and boosting commercial opportunities".
Lynch, who oversees US trade policy across 15 countries in South and Central Asia, is
expected to hold discussions with Bangladeshi officials and stakeholders on a range of issues, including trade facilitation and investment frameworks.
Officials say the visit "underscores Washington's broader effort to deepen economic ties in the region, as Bangladesh seeks to diversify its export markets and attract foreign investment".
Before assuming his current role, Lynch had served as deputy assistant US trade representative for South and Central Asia, where he managed negotiations across sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services and intellectual property.
