US wants to give training to armed forces

The United States wants to provide technical support and training to Bangladesh Armed Forces, said Commander of US Pacific Air Forces General Gary L North Tuesday.
General North expressed the US keenness when he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Tuesday, reports UNB.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed newsmen after the meeting.
General North highly praised Bangladesh's contribution and performance in the UN peacekeeping missions.
In this connection, he eulogised Hasina's stand for peace and her "visionary and wise leadership."
In reply, the Prime Minister thanked the US government for standing beside the people of Bangladesh during various natural calamities.
She mentioned the US government's `Operation Sea Angel' launched in aid of the people after the cyclone in 1991.
Sheikh Hasina also thanked the US government for its assistance to the people of Bangladesh following the recent cyclonic storm Sidr.
