The US visa-restriction policy supports the objective of holding of upcoming Bangladesh national elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner, reiterated Matthew Miller, US State Department spokesperson, on Wednesday.
The desire of the people of Bangladesh is to freely choose their leaders, Miller said while answering a question at the regular press briefing in Washington, D.C.
"Let me restate or state in slightly different language what I said last
week, which the United States wants what the Bangladeshis themselves want: free and fair elections that are conducted in a peaceful manner", he said.
"I'll just say that the United States does not support any particular party and does not want to influence the outcome of the election, Miller added.
