USAID assistant administrator for Asia arrives in Dhaka

The US development agency’s Assistant Administrator for Asia Anne Aarnes will arrive in Dhaka on Monday. USAID Bangladesh said Aarnes would visit development projects in Khulna, Jessore, Baagerhaat and Munshiganj during her four-day stay. Aarnes is in charge of USAID’s development programs across Asia, except Afghanistan and Pakistan, comprising more than 20 countries and reaching more than half of the world’s population. The US government, through the USAID, has provided over $6 billion in development assistance to Bangladesh since 1971. The amount was nearly $200 million in 2014. Its Bangladesh programmes include promotion of democratic institutions and practices, increasing food security and economic opportunities, improving health and education services, and increasing resiliency to climate change through adaptation and low-carbon development, according to bdnews24.com.
