Friday, 6 June 2008

League leaders Usha KC meet Abahani Limited in the title deciding match of the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League today Friday at 4 pm at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium, reports UNB.

Usha KC dominate the league table with 33 points despite a defeat against Mohammedan SC in the super league, while Abahani Limited follow with 31 points, both playing 12 matches.

"We'll take to the field to win the match," Usha KC captain Shamsuddin Tuhin told the agency Thursday.

He said: "The pressure is much more on us because if we go for a draw, we may lose the match. So, we desperately need a win against Abahani Limited to clinch the title."

Replying to a question, Tuhin said they had an opportunity to become champion in the last match against Mohammedan SC, but "we missed it as we did not play well."

He said his teammates are both physically and mentally fit to play positive hockey in the crucial match.

Abahani coach Mahbub Harun said at one stage, they gave up the hope of winning the league title. "But now we are very much confident about winning the title following the boys' good performance in the last two matches."

Replying to a question, he admitted that Usha KC is a strong side. They have a skilled custodian and their two Pakistani recruits played superbly all through the matches, he said.

Harun said there is no injury in the team and all his players are fully fit for the big match.
