Uttara EPZ progressing rapidly

Our Correspondent NILPHAMARI, Dec 3: Uttara EPZ in Nilphamari district established almost a decade ago is progressing rapidly and there prevails a quiet and disciplined situation there. Despite lack of gas connection as many as eight industries now are in operation here employing more than 5500 people, 85% of whom are female. EPZ sources said there are 202 plots in the EPZ. Each plot comprising 2000 square metres out of which 56 plots have already been handed over to the concerned entrepreneurs and the rest are at different stages of contract. Sources said interrupted supply of electricity disrupts functioning of the industries here. The EPZ requires about one MW of electricity but electricity provider REB fails to provide full requirement.
