Uttara Jute Mills workers demonstrate

Sunday, 27 April 2014

Workers of Uttara Jute Mills in Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj have staged demonstrations to force the authorities to meet their three-point demand, including an end to oppression on workers. Their other demands are removal of factory general manager RC Paul and reinstating union leader Zidul Hoque in his job. The workers alleged that Paul harassed and cheated them over their salary and allowance. They also said their leader Zidul Hoque was relieved from his job for protesting various irregularities by the factory authorities. Later, they held a protest rally at the same place. The workers, however, returned to work following assurances that their demands would be met, according to UNB.
