Uttra abduction suspect killed in \\\'shootout\\\'

A youth, who was allegedly involved with the abduction of a collage girl in Uttra, has been killed in a ‘gun battle’ with the law enforcers in the city’s Hatirjheel area on Friday. The deceased, Apon, 28, received bullet injuries around 3:30am, while taking preparation to conduct mugging, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre. According to the officials of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police raided the Hatirjheel area around 3:30am, while ‘a gang of snatchers were taking preparation to conduct looting. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang opened fire on them, forcing the detectives to fire back, leaving Apon critically injured. He rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the doctor declared him dead.’ The law enforcers recovered a pistol loaded with four rounds of bullets and seized a car from the spot. However, they could not arrest anyone as the rest gangsters fled the scene, said Sub-Inspector Nur Ali of Badda Police Station. DC Masudur said: “Apon and his accomplices had been carrying out various types of criminal activities including abduction, toll collection and mugging in the capital’s Rampura, Gulshan, Uttara and Khilgaon areas. He is one of the suspected abductors of a college student, who was picked up by a gang of criminals from Uttra on July 4,’ according to a news agency.
