UZ admin razes two brick kilns in Kushtia

FE Report | Sunday, 4 November 2018

The Kushtia upazila administration with the help of the Anti-Corruption Commission dismantled two unauthorised brick kilns for their harmful environmental impacts.
Brick makers BBF Brickfields and Majed Brickfields in Egaro Mile area under Sadar upazila, were baking bricks at their facilities without approval.
The upazila administration with the help of the ACC razed the two kilns to the ground, as they pollute air, destroy fertility and damage biodiversity.
Under the supervision of ACC director general (admin) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, a team led by Kushtia Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Jubair Hossain conducted the drive.
According to an ACC press note, establishments at the two brick fields were demolished using excavators on November 02 and 03.
The owners did not take approval from the district administration, environmental directorate and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution.
About the drive, Mr Chowdhury said corruption was the key factor behind the operation of such kilns.
They not only harm the environment, but also encourage others to resort to corruption, he added.
