Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway since Wednesday evening. “Traffic has gone haywire since Wednesday evening after barricades were set up on the highway at Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong district because of on-going upazila (UZ) elections which started on Wednesday morning with polls being held to 97 out of 487 upazilas across the country, including Mirsarai,” Kumira Highway Police outpost’s Seargent Zillur Rahim said today. Commuters suffered as the snarls showed no sign of ending. Many passengers were seen getting off the buses and walking towards their destinations. The worst snarls were reported from the 30km from Kumira to Barha Darogarhat, said Sergeant Syed Zakir Hossain of Barha Darogarhat highway police outpost, according to bdnews24.com.
