UZ polls nomination submission deadline expires today

The deadline for the submission of nomination papers for the upcoming polls in 117 upazilas of the country’s 52 districts expires Sunday. Aspirants must submit their nomination papers to returning officers or assistant returning officers concerned by 5pm today to contest the second-phase election in the 117 upazilas, billed for February 27. The date for the scrutiny of nomination papers is February 4, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11. On January 23, the Election Commission announced the second-phase election schedule for the 117 upazilas out of 487 in the country. Earlier, on January 19, the commission declared the first-phase election schedule for 102 upazilas with the voting date on February 19. The countrywide 4th upazila election will be held by June next in six phases, according to a news agency.
