UZ polls not cent per cent fair: EC Nawaz
Tuesday, 1 April 2014
Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz on Tuesday said the just concluded upazila (UZ) elections have not been completely fair and there was lack of cooperation from field level election officials. “It can’t be claimed that election has been 100 per cent fair. We have our dissatisfaction,” he told journalists at his office. Shah Nawaz said election officials did not perform their duty properly. As the commission appointed election officials from different agencies and institutions, they did not cooperate with the commission always over holding the fair and free election, he said. He admitted that violence marked the elections to some extent despite highest security measures taken by the election commission. Elections were held in 459 upazilas between February 19 and March 31 amid violence and vote rigging, according to a news agency.
