UZ polls: Wounded Chaugachha AL man dies at DMCH

An Awami League (AL) activist, injured on Thursday in an attack allegedly by supporters of a BNP-backed candidate at a polling station in Chaugachha upazila in Jessore, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday. The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rahman, 52, an activist of Chaugachha’s Pativila union unit of AL and a resident of Debipur village in the upazila. Police said an altercation ensued between the activists of AL and BNP at Debipur Primary School polling centre during the 2nd phase of upazila (UZ) polls on Thursday. At one stage, both the groups attacked each other, leaving five people injured. Of the injured, Fazlur Rahman and Jahurul Islam were rushed to Chaugachha Upazila Health Complex. Fazlur was later, upon deterioration of his condition, shifted to the DMCH where he succumbed to his injuries at about 6:30 am today, according to UNB.
